Rocklin/Placer County Job Growth

Placer County Tops Nation in Job Growth
A new U.S. Department of Labor report gives Placer County a No. 1 rating in the nation for employment growth. The report, which compares employment statistics from the nation's 315 largest counties, found that Placer County led the nation with a 4.9% increase in jobs from March 2002 to March 2003. There were 123,000 people employed by the end of the first quarter this year. The report, released by the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, sheds light on Placer County's recent resiliency in an eroding nationwide job market. Nationally, the job market suffered a 0.3% decline during the same period.

Placer County's job growth tops in U.S.
You can talk all you want about the "jobless recovery" and the sluggish economy. Just don't talk about it in Placer County.  Stretching from Roseville to the Sierra, it ranks No. 1 in job growth among urban counties in the United States, according to data released recently by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Placer's payrolls grew by 4.9 percent during the 12 months ending March 31, topping Florida's Lee County and Missouri's St. Charles County (4.6 percent each). The hot streak is largely attributed to Placer's population explosion. An influx of retirees, Bay Area telecommuters and others has contributed to the suburbanization of Sacramento and fueled a Placer jobs boom in construction, retailing and other service industries.

Placer led U.S. in job growth
It took Washington several months to crunch the numbers, so Placer County only recently learned that it had the nation's fastest year-to-year job growth in March. But now it's trumpeting the distinction as a sign of the county's basic economic health. According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, Placer's employment base grew by 4.9 percent to 123,500 in the year ending last March, the best percentage gain in the United States. Judging by state employment records, Placer continues to add jobs. Placer County posted an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent in September, reports the state Employment Development Department, with a preliminary estimate of 133,700 people employed.
